Forty objects, shifting images and a trail of cables connect two sculptures to turn the tensions of design into an installation visitors can move through both in space and mind.

背景

For Paris Design Week 2022, ENSCi gave XP Unit a carte blanche at Le BiS in Paris.
The invitation was to reflect on the directions design can take today: a practice shaped by competing priorities, uncertainty and debate.
We approached those tensions as material for an installation, giving visitors a way to encounter them through objects, images, space and sound.

任务

We conceived an installation that unfolded across two levels.
On the first, an LED tower displayed a changing selection of 40 objects modelled in 3D, each representing a possible direction in a designer’s practice.
Mirrors drew visitors into the display. From the tower, cables led downstairs to a device showing text that could be read as either the source or the output of the images above.

成果

Entropic Design Display gave physical form to the instability at the heart of design.
Moving between the levels, visitors could trace a connection between objects and text without being given an unique interpretation.
The shifting display and their own reflections made the questions personal, leaving room for doubt, competing readings and new possibilities.
