Designing a strategic product system for neurosurgical microrobots.
A microrobot becomes a surgical product only once surgeons can see it, trust it and control it. Since 2020, we have designed Robeauté's successive products and interfaces around one coherent language of form and use.
背景
Robeauté is a Paris-based medtech company developing a self-propelled microrobot, about the size of a grain of rice, for neurosurgery.
Where today's rigid tools travel in straight lines, the robot follows curved paths through brain tissue to reach several targets from a single entry point. Its first application is tumour biopsy.
Currently in preclinical development, the company is preparing its first clinical trials, with the long-term ambition of delivering therapies inside the brain.
任务
We have worked alongside the founders and engineering team since 2020, starting in the operating room to understand how neurosurgeons work.
A robot this small raises a question few products face: how do you make something barely visible feel tangible and trustworthy? We answered with four principles, human care, softness, exploration and biocompatible technology, a kind of watchmaking for the body.
They frame every product decision, from form and colour to use.
成果
Over six years, the system has grown through successive versions and new products, from the surgical console and insertion hardware to an operator interface now in design and testing.
Each new piece extends the same language of soft forms and functional colour cues, so the family stays readable for surgeons as it grows. The same principles shape the scientific and medical imagery that carries Robeauté's story to clinicians, partners and the public.
