For Lumi, we looked beyond the mechanics of holding a screen to explore four ways a stand could become more useful, adaptable and desirable.

背景

Lumi, a Chinese manufacturer of screen supports, approached us to explore a new range for desks.
Before drawing another stand, we stepped back to examine the category: where these products are used, what people need from them and what existing ranges leave unresolved.
Many supports do their mechanical job but remain visually crowded. Cable storage is often an afterthought, power is rarely integrated, and the stand has little to offer beyond holding a screen. There was an opportunity to reconsider both its function and its role in a space.

任务

We began with research into uses, product ranges and unmet needs, then translated those findings into four exploratory design directions.
One brought the stand closer to domestic furniture through modular legs and assembled components. Another imagined an electrified hub integrating power, a camera and speakers for uses such as video calls. A third revisited the television as a piece of furniture, with storage built around the screen. The fourth placed a screen inside an extruded aluminium frame: a movable, modular concept designed to be flat-packed.

成果

The study gave Lumi four distinct territories to explore, each responding to a gap identified in the research.
Rather than refining one conventional stand, the concepts asked whether a screen support could blend into a home, organise a workspace, become furniture or move freely between settings.
As a prospective project, the outcome was not a finished product range but a clearer view of where Lumi could take its offer next, and how design could open up new commercial possibilities in a category with room to change.
